Besides of having oil and strong economy, Muslim countries stand back in field of science and technology. Our research outputs (e.g. published papers) are mere 1.15% of the output of the entire world even though we constitute 25% of the world’s population. There are so few PhDs in Universities and Research Centers in Muslim world.
Now some countries are showing good progress in this field. Turkey, Iran and Pakistan have been made significant results that can be seen as increased in international publications from these countries.
We are, the Pakistani nation, Al-Hamdo-Lilallah are atomic power and also have well developed natural and human resources, but are not showing so much progress in field of science and technology.
The research paper published and PhD’s produced yearly are much less as compared to western countries. Although some universities of our country are now ranked among world top 500 but a lot of progress will have to be done.
The few suggestions that I want to give and through which good outcomes can be obtain are:
- To establish modern standard laboratories
- To enhance research culture and activities in institutions
- To encourage research activities
- To organize research projects competitions at national and international levels
